DOWNLOAD THE STUDY PLAN & THE ADMISSION TESTS REQUIREMENTS

Young guitar players who do not have yet a suitable preparation for direct admission to the Academic courses can start the study path from the Pre-academic / Foundation course, with a duration ranging from 1 to 3 years, strictly dependent on the level of access and individual study rhythms.
For 40 years the pre-academic course has represented Saint Louis’ strength to acquire high-level preparation for admission to limited number academic courses.

The course aims to prepare the student for a thorough knowledge of the jazz language, in particular through the study of improvisation and accompaniment on II-V-I progression in major key. An important development of the harmonic knowledge is expected through the study of the extensions of the seventh chords and the technique of harmonization of the melodies.
The turn around is dealt with in major key and its accompaniment with drop 2 chords and chords without three voices (Phil De Greg).
The reference repertoire ranges from Tune up to Lady Bird, Four, Misty, Satin Doll, Tenor Madness, I got Rhythm (slow), Scrapple from the apple, Perdido, St. Thomas, Valse hot, West coast blues, All the things you are, Blue moon, All blues.
In addition the student will deepen the knowledge of blues, harmonic structure, accompaniment, blues scales, improvisation and the accompanying styles for Pop-Rock, Pop-Ballad, Shuffle, Funk, Reggae, R & B, Bossa Nova, Swing, developing the ability of first-sight reading of abbreviations and accompaniment melody on abbreviations and indicated style.
The study of contemporary harmony goes from the basics to the 5-voice chords, with tensions and alterations, altered scales, modal exchanges and harmonization techniques of melodies.
The Ear training course will bring each student to know how to recognize melodies, chord progressions, rhythmic patterns, up to develop the ability to transcribe a mini-song, without the aid of tools.
Each student personalizes his/her own style and repertoire by choosing the teacher for individual instrument lessons.
