Marti Jane Robertson
Marti began her career as a sound engineer in 1977 in her hometown, Seattle.
Under the expert wing of Peter B. Lewis, she learned the secrets of radio and television post-production. A year later, her love for music and her desire to grow professionally, naturally led her to move to New York City. She was hired as an assistant at Automated Sound Studios, one of the most important recording and jingle rooms of the 70’s and 80’s. Led by sound engineers such as Elliot Scheiner and Artie Friedman, and working daily with the country’s most talented musicians and producers, her career progressed rapidly.
Two and a half years later, at the age of 22, Marti leaves the Automated Sound staff to pursue her freelance career. She starts working regularly in historical studies such as A&R and The Power Station (later known as Avatar), The Hit Factory and Skyline, and she increases her skills by collaborating with artists and producers such as Marcus Miller, Phil Ramone, David Sanborn, Don Grolnick, Michael Franks and many others.
She felt the need to grow not only professionally but also personally, and in 1986 Marti moved to Milan. Her years of experience as a sound engineer and musician (she studied clarinet, saxophone and flute during school and privately with Eddie Daniels in NYC) opened her the door to many new experiences. In addition to working in the studio, Marti starts working live as a FOH engineer and in 1990 follows the European Tour of Eros Ramazzotti. It is the beginning of a new phase of her career. In the following years she worked with the most important artists of the Italian pop and jazz scene, both in the studio and live.
The desire to contribute to making quality products also for small customers, jazz musicians and young musicians pushes Marti to invest in her own structure. A mobile studio is created for recording and mixing that works both at home and on-location. Her new autonomy allows her to leave Milan, and in 2002 she moves to Sardinia. While continuing to travel and work on the continent, Marti has set up a complete studio at home where she performs editing, mix and mastering. Broadband allows her to work with customers, remotely too. In 2016, janeStudio opens, a recording studio with MGJR Records. The 70sqm room with open recording room is complete with Yamaha CF Grand Piano Grand Piano.
