Ramberto Ciammarughi

Pianist and composer from Assisi, he began his activity in the early 80’s playing alone and in trio in a large number of Italian jazz clubs. For years it has included numerous participations in the main jazz festivals and music festivals in Italy and abroad. We remember several editions of “Umbria Jazz”, “Ravenna Jazz” and various editions of the most important Roman festivals. In recent years he collaborates, on several occasions, with the best Italian musicians, and boasts some participation in concerts and in the recording studio, with important foreign artists: Randy Brecker, Billy Cobham, Steve Grossman, John Clark, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmie Owens et al. Since 2004 he has been present in the quartet of Miroslav Vitous together with B. Mintzer, A. Nussbaum, D. Gottlieb, M. Giammarco. He has played abroad several times: United States, Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka), Switzerland, France, Turkey, Czechoslovakia, Singapore, Luxembourg, Austria, Spain, Germany (in ’87 he performed a piano solo concert at the university of Monaco). He recorded a concert of his compositions on Radio for “Rai Progetto Europa 83” and in 2001 he participated in the broadcast “Invenzioni a due voci” for Radio3 (Italian National Radio). In 2008 he played with the S.Cantini quartet at the Charleston USA festival and in 2009 he was invited for a series of piano solo concerts, always for Spoletofestival USA.  He includes occasional appearances in the field of contemporary music collaborating, among other things, with groups such as: “Artisanat Fourieux” “Tetraktis” “Open trios” etc.

He is a composer and arranger of soundtracks for theatrical performances and installations of figurative art: in 1985 “Letture di Filosofia” (Teatro al Parlamento), “Gulliver” (Tor di nona Theater, Rome). In 1988 the collaboration with the director Maurizio Schmidt began: “Garbage Boat”, the trilogy: “Memorandum” and “L’Orazio” in ’91, “Cassandra” in ’92 at the Out-Off theater in Milan, at the Ghione in Rome etc. “Small closed circle” in ’93, with the stage collaboration of Mimmo Paladino. “Un uomo è un uomo” and “L’Arlecchino” in 1995 in collaboration with the Nico Pepe Academy of Udine; “Serata Marconi” and “A midsummer night’s dream” in ’96; “Return to Assisi” at Carignano in Turin directed by Eugenio Allegri in ’98. “La leggenda di ognuno” with M. Schmidt in 2000. In ’99 – 2000 he wrote and staged “Una lauda per Frate Francesco” always with E. Allegri. In 2001 he composed and performed the music for the “Saulo di Tarso” on the occasion of the feast of the theater of S. Miniato and for a “project on S. Paolo” by Pasolini; all in collaboration with M. Schmidt and V. Gazzolo. In 2003 he composed the stage music for “I promessi sposi alla prova” by G. Testori, produced by the company “Elsinor”, always with Schmidt and Gazzolo. In 2003/2004 he wrote and staged the play “Johann of the clouds” with V. Gazzolo and an instrumental ensemble. He is the author of the music for V. Pirrotta’s “Eumenides” – presented at the 2004 Venice Biennale – for which he obtains a “nomination” for the Olympic awards of the Italian theater “ETI” 2005. In 2006 he is the author of the music for “La sagra del signore della nave” again with V. Pirrotta produced by the Argentina theater in Rome, with this show he won the 2006 “ETI” Olympic award. In 2007 he made the Filottete with V. Pirrotta at the Greek theater in Taormina.

In 1995 he is musical director in the events for the centenary of Swarovski, on this occasion he composes a ballet performed by the dancer Oriella Dorella. In the same year he created the show “Hundred Years of Emotions” in which he orchestrates and directs his own instrumental ensemble. In 1996-97 he designs and realizes “Folk Songs”, a suite for wind orchestra in which the popular musical tradition is revisited. In the same period he participated in the latest editorial projects of De Agostini as a composer and music curator. In 1985 he began his recording activity which includes several collaborations with the best Italian artists. “Fantastic World” ’85, “Biri San” ’86, “Area 2” ’87, “Mixaudio” ’87, “What color for a tale” ’91 with Furio di Castri, “Project Jazz” ’91 with Mia Martini and M. Giammarco, “Meditango” ’94 with Bruno Tommaso, “L’Avventura” ’94 with Roberto Gatto, “Ulisse” ’96 with Umberto Fiorentino, “The Life Always” ’97 with Luigi Ferrara, The surge and the flow two discs are soon to be released with M. Rosen, in duo with F. Zeppetella and in trio with M. Vitous and G. Cleaver. He also has several ssoundtracks CDs and carries out the activity of performer, author and arranger for Radio, Cinema and Television. In 2008 he published “Liaisons dangereuses per pf. and percussion quartet with Tetraktis”.
His teaching activity began in 1981 at the “Moz-Art” of Perugia; in 1987 he taught at the “Uno” academy in Rome, he also taught for years at the “Stix” in Perugia, at the “Civic music school of Osimo”; at the” Roman Academy of Music” and at the “IALS” also in Rome. He holds regular courses and seminars at the Philharmonic of Villadossola, at the Ass. “Amici della musica” of Trapani, at the “Liviabella” school of Macerata.
