BETTER DAYS AHEAD…

Saint Louis adheres to the World Jazz Day, established by UNESCO in 2011, with “Better Days Ahead”, a rich program of events dedicated to Jazz in all its forms. On April 30th, full day, 12 non-stop hours of music, from morning to evening, with master classes, insights, live music and impromptu improvisations, in the company of prestigious names, artists who brought Italian jazz to shine on stages and festivals around the world.
Joe Locke will be among the musicians who joined the Saint Louis “Better Days Ahead” – World Jazz Day initiative. The American jazz musician, considered one of the greatest vibraphonists in the world and who has collaborated with the most important musicians and ensembles, in Link from New York, will present the master class “Finding new paths on chord progressions” (h 18:00).
Hybridizations between jazz and ethnic music in a research perspective, this is the theme chosen by Paolo Damiani (“From Herbie to Rosario: jazz, improvisation, research”, h 16:00), among the most active and renowned European musicians and teachers: responsible for advanced artistic training courses and research and experimentation at Saint Louis, and who founded and directed for many years the Jazz Department of the S. Cecilia Conservatory.
The program ends with an exciting meeting between the saxophonist Rosario Giuliani and the pianist Enrico Pieranunzi, with “Goodbye Lee” (h 22:00) will dedicate a heartfelt tribute to Lee Konitz, the great star of world jazz, who died last April 15. The two Italian jazz musicians, who met and played together with the extraordinary American saxophonist, who died at the age of 92 after contracting Covid-19, will remember him, telling some anecdotes, playing his songs and recorded by video.
And then Alessandro Gwis and Michele Rabbia, Alice Ricciardi, Pietro Lussu, Fabrizio Sferra, Lorenzo Tucci, Umberto Fiorentino, Elisabetta Antonini and Paolo Silvestri. In this spring 2020, in which the watchword is “Stay at home”, the musicians open the doors of their studios to flood the vibrant energy of jazz with our rooms, illuminating them with notes, beauty and poetry to accompany us towards future that awaits us … better days ahead!
