Fabrizio Sferra

Fabrizio Sferra began his activity as a jazz drummer in the late 70’s and gradually established himself on the national scene by collaborating with prestigious Italian and foreign musicians, including: Enrico Pieranunzi, Massimo Urbani, Antonello Salis, Maurizio Giammarco, Pietro Tonolo, Rita Marcotulli, Stefano Battaglia, Enrico Rava, Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Mal Waldron, Kenny Wheeler, Toots Thielemans, Paul Bley, Johnny Griffin, Pat Metheny…
The experience from 1983 to 1992 with the pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and the double bass player Enzo Pietropaoli was significant; their “Space Jazz Trio” wins among other things, in 1988 and 1989, the critical referendums called by the magazine “Musica Jazz”, respectively as the best album and best lineup of the year. Ten years later, in ’98 and ’99, and then again in 2001 and 2003, the same referendum prizes go to “Doctor 3”, a trio created by Sferra in ’97, with Danilo Rea on the piano and Pietropaoli himself on bass, a group that represents, among other things, in January 2001, Italian jazz in the historic “Town Hall” of New York.
In more than three decades of activity, he took part in many international festivals, including: Umbria Jazz, Clusone, Ravenna, Rome, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Madrid, Copenhagen, Singapore, New Dhely, Beijing, Chicago, LosAngeles, S.Francisco, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, San Sebastian.
He currently works with ‘Doctor 3′ together with Danilo Rea and Enzo Pietropaoli, with Enrico Rava’s ‘Tribe’ quintet, with Fabio Zeppetella Quartet, with Trio Battisti – Traenti – Sferra, with the project ‘Grace in Town’ together to Costanza Alegiani.
In more than three decades he has carried out, and continues to carry out, didactic activities on the national territory, with seminars and master classes, and as a teacher at Music Schools and Conservatories.
