Dario Giacovelli

He was born in 1990 in the province of Bari, in southern Italy. He began studying bass guitar in 2003. In 2009 he moved to Rome where he began his studies at the Saint Louis College of Music, specializing in different musical styles (Pop and Black Music) and venturing into experiences of Jazz Orchestra, Gospel Choir and small ensembles.

He graduated with honors in Jazz Electric Bass with honors in October 2015 at Saint Louis College of Music in Rome.
He attended the two-year period of specialization in Jazz Bass at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, where he graduated with honors in February 2018.

Dario perfects himself following various summer seminars and workshops focused on Jazz, obtaining scholarships and awards at Umbria Jazz 2012 and the Fara Music Festival and participates as a collaborator in the workshops at the Rome Summer Jazz Camp in 2015. At the same time he began his compositional activity, being fascinated by modern jazz composition methods and hip-hop / soul productions.

Dario boasts important collaborations with artists of the national and international scene: Kurt Elling, Vince Mendoza, Richard De Rosa, Jay Clayton, Melvin Brown, Fabrizio Bosso, Max Ionata, Amedeo Tommasi, Rosario Giuliani, Javier Girotto, Carolina Bubbico, Eleonora Bianchini, Vhelade, Vince Abbracciante, Maurizio Giammarco, Renzo Rubino, Marco Siniscalco, Robertinho De Paula, Gianni Coscia, Dino Piana, Jens Noerholm, and also boasts live experience with DJs and producers.

He has been active on the Roman music scene for years and is an integral part of different stylistic projects: Atrìo, OutAut, Saint Voyage, Ruben Coco and La Base.
In June 2017 he composed the music of the short film ‘Chromatica’, the first short film to be presented at the 74th Venice Film Festival in the Virtual Reality section and winner of the VR contest funded by Biennale College and Sony. He participated in the Erasmus plus project in Denmark at the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg in 2016.

In March 2018 he was chosen as assistant for Marcus Miller for a workshop at SLMC.
Dario has performed in major festivals, clubs, theaters and auditoriums; he has also played in prestigious European clubs and conservatories in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Finland.

He has currently taken the teaching path at Saint Louis College of Music and is dedicated to his musical projects, touring, musical productions and composition.
