Alessandro Cusatelli

He is the author of four concerts for solo instrument and orchestra (Concerto for viola, 1986; Concerto for violin, 1990; Concerto for oboe and orchestra, 2007; Sonatina for clarinet and small orchestra, 2013), numerous other symphonic compositions, a musical drama in one act (Mary Allen, 1995), various symphonic-vocal works (Libera me, 1997; Ave verum, 1998; two cycles of Lieder for soprano and orchestra); he also dedicated himself to a large chamber production, mainly for arch formations.
His works have been performed at the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin, the RAI Orchestra of Milan, the Opera Theater of Rome, the Arena Foundation of Verona, the Chamber Season of the RAI of Rome, and at many other musical institutions.
The totality of the symphonic-chamber production was frequently broadcast by RAI radio networks, of which he has been a guest several times in broadcasts relating to contemporary music and others on various musical and educational aspects. RAI oversaw the production of symphonic works (Concerto for viola; Six preludes for orchestra) and chamber works (Six preludes for piano; Quartet n° 2). The Arena di Verona Opera has commissioned the Concerto for violin and orchestra, premiered at the Philharmonic Theater in the 1990/91 season. The Arena di Verona Foundation premiered the symphonic drama Mayerling in the 1999/2000 season of the Teatro Filarmonico. For the 2000/2001 season, the Rome Opera Theater commissioned the melologist to hear the voice, I heard the cry, from Euripides’ Medea. On commission from UNESCO he participated in the bicentenary of the birth of A. Pushkin with the composition of the cantata Besy (“Diavoli”) for soloists, choir, two pianos and percussion, based on the original text of the poet, performed at Villa Giusti, in Verona, in June 2001 as part of the world poetry day.
From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the Technical Commission of the SIAE Lyric session. He has been teaching for thirty-six years as Head of the Composition class, currently at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
He is the author of an instrumentation treatise, published by Carisch in September 2007, and an orchestration treatise (February 2010) published by the same publishing series.
